Why go with a disposable mop over laundered?
Use of disposable mops is very straightforward: a new mop is used to clean a specified area (floors, walls, etc.), then downgraded (for use in less critical areas) or discarded outright after the primary use. The surface area cleaned per mop is determined by sampling of critical metrics, and validated if the area is sterile.
With laundered reusable mops, unless the customer is large enough to fill a washer with enough of their own mops, mops from multiple customers are processed together. While the laundry makes every attempt to sort mops into wash loads by application, customers’ cleaning solutions, or by industry, there is no way for the laundry to fully know or control the conditions and contaminants to which mops from various customers have been exposed.
Is there a correct protocol for a 2-bucket mopping system?
In a two-bucket system and protocol, the mop wringer is placed over one of the buckets, dedicated as the “waste” bucket, and the mop is NEVER put into that bucket. The second bucket is used to hold the cleaning solution, or rinse water if a rinse protocol is followed. The mop then is placed ONLY into this bucket to “rinse” and recharge the mop with cleaning solution.
Is there a correct protocol for a 3-bucket mopping system?
The addition of a third bucket provides a dedicated mop rinse solution (either water or a dilute solution of disinfectant) extends all of the benefits of the two-bucket protocol which has a waste bucket and cleaning solution or rinse. Three bucket protocol is considered an industry best practice as it minimizes the disinfectant solution from being contaminated and reduces the risk of reapplying contaminants.
What disinfectant should I use with my mopping system?
Disinfectants should be selected based on the facility’s risk assessment. It’s important to consider the contact time required to kill organisms in the facility. The longer the contact time, the longer the solution needs to stay wet on the surface. If longer then 3 minutes, solution may need to applied a second or third time. It’s also important to rotate in a sporicide.
